Colorsport photographer completes London Marathon for Cystic Fibrosis Trust despite broken metatarsal
A broken metatarsal has side-lined several high-profile sportsman - notably David Beckham and Wayne Rooney - but it wasn't enough to stop Colorsport photographer Ian MacNicol from completing Sunday's London Marathon in three and a half hours.
Ian broke his foot while training in January and was in plaster until the end of March, only able to resume running in the few weeks remaining before the race. A truly brilliant effort!!
Ian was running to raise funds for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. You can still sponsor him - to do so visit his page here http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/IanMacNicol
Commentating on his race Ian said:
I made it round the 26.2 miles! The first 10 felt pretty good - probably survived on my recent limited training? The next 10 weren't so good but I kept it going, I think I was running on historic training, they say muscle has memory so mine must have had a pretty good memory! - went through 20 miles in 2hrs:30min..........Then the wheels came off! - a six mile shuffle, the tank was empty but I never walked!!
My finishing time was a pretty reasonable 03:30:36 - not bad for some one who is 46 this week and broke his foot 99 days prior to the marathon?
So again thanks to everyone for their generosity and support I have truly been moved."
